A final note

Cheating happens despite our best intentions as instructors, and much of what leads a student to cheat is out of our control. But research shows instructor behavior can minimize cheating when students feel that they have individual relationships with their instructors; they have the opportunity and desire to engage with the material inside and outside of class; they have formed cohesive relationships with at least some of their classmates; the course is enjoyable overall; their time is well spent; and the course is well organized.¹

Fundamentally, better pedagogy creates a culture of authentic learning — which reduces cheating.
